Growing up in North Cowichan, Erica has always had a sense of awe and an appreciation for nature. Exploring tidal pools, going on hikes in the forest, camping every year in Tofino and kayaking up Johnstone Strait as a kid helped her fuel that passion to educate herself and others about the beauty around us. Exploring Vancouver Island and its many beaches, forests and rivers all throughout her life made her want to protect and share the environment, with conservation and respect for Indigenous stewardship big ideals in her life.
Following a path in Biology, Erica went to Camosun College before switching plans and making Tofino her home base in 2023. She has volunteered as a naturalist at the Sidney Aquarium, learning fun facts about Salish Sea creatures and telling locals and visitors all about them. Working at the docks as a monitor for Ecotrust Canada has also come in handy with her fish identification skills, while collecting data to help the salmon. Volunteering with other non-profits in the South Island relating to food insecurity and community, solidified the connection between community and nature that is Erica’s aspiration to spread.
Building on her love for the Clayoquot Sound and sharing her love of the ocean, Erica is super excited to join Raincoast Education Society this summer! In her free time, you will most likely see her at the beach, tide pooling, fishing or surfing. See you there!
