The RES is seeking creative and enthusiastic interns who can organize and lead summer camps and community outreach in both Tofino and Ucluelet!

Job Details:
Number of positions: 4+
Schedule: Full time, mid-June to end of August (exact dates TBD).
Hours: 35 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday 9-4 – (some weekends required)
Wage: $18.00 /hour (+ 4% vacation)
The Raincoast Education Society is currently seeking applications for summer internship positions for Camp Coordinator and Education Program Co-ordinator.
The Raincoast Education Society is a non-profit organization based in Tofino, B.C. with a mandate to shape an environmentally sustainable future for the Clayoquot and Barkley Sound region through education and community stewardship. We seek to accomplish our mission through a broad range of high-quality educational and research programs focused on the natural environment, cultures, and communities of the region.
Responsibilities specific to the Camp Co-ordinator:
- Develop and deliver our summer day camps in Tofino and Ucluelet for youth ages 6-12. Our educational camps provide activity-based learning opportunities focused on the rich marine and terrestrial ecosystems of the region to encourage youth to steward and conserve the environment.
Responsibilities specific to the Education Program Coordinator:
- Assist the Camp Coordinator to develop and deliver outreach programs and day camps focused on the natural environment and the cultural history of the region for locals and visitors to the area.
Responsibilities of all positions:
- Planning and running several outreach events to connect the public to nature by providing education on ecological issues and promoting our ongoing programs.
- All positions will work closely with youth in the region- it is essential that candidates enjoy working with kids.
- Supporting our ongoing research and monitoring programs, and data entry when needed.
- Implementing safety protocols and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all program participants.
- Engaging with the community to promote our educational programming through various communication streams, including social media, email, website, and in-person meetings, as well as contributing materials (photos, videos, articles) to be used for communicating our mission and programs to the public.
- Collaborating with other RES staff and community stakeholders.
An ideal candidate will have/be:
- Enrolled in, or completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or Education (or related field).
- Between 18 and 30 years old and a Canadian Citizen (or permanent resident).
- Enjoy working with kids ages 6-12.
- Previous Camp Leader experience.
- 1 – 3 years of previous interpretive, education, or science experience.
- Knowledge of coastal ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest.
- Experience in program planning and coordination.
- Strong communication skills and experience working in a team environment.
- Able to remain outdoors most of the day.
- Experience in risk management and implementing safety protocol.
Certifications:
- Level 1 / Standard First Aid and CPR (Wilderness First Aid an asset).
- Valid BC driver’s license (and must have own vehicle and ability to use vehicle to access program sites).
- Class 4 driver’s license and willingness to drive 24 passenger bus an asset.
- Bronze Cross Certificate an asset.
