We are hiring summer positions for Raincoast Education Society!

Come join our team: 2025 Summer Internships! Our internships offer valuable experience in environmental education and outreach, while allowing you to work in one of British Columbia’s most stunning coastal environments.

Job Details:

Number of positions: 4-6

Schedule: Full time, mid-June to end of August (exact dates TBD).

Hours: 35 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday 9-4 with some weekends required.

Wage: $20.00 /hour (+ 4% vacation)

The Raincoast Education Society is currently seeking applications for summer internship positions for Education Outreach Coordinators.

The Raincoast Education Society is a non-profit organization based in Tofino, B.C. with a mandate to shape an environmentally sustainable future for the Clayoquot and Barkley Sound region through education and community stewardship. We seek to accomplish our mission through a broad range of high-quality educational and research programs focused on the natural environment, cultures, and communities of the region.

General Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead outreach events that connect the public to nature by educating them on ecological issues and promoting RES programs.
  • Plan and facilitate summer camps for youth ages 6-12, engaging them in hands-on learning about the region’s marine and terrestrial ecosystems while fostering environmental stewardship.
  • Work closely with local youth—a passion for working with children is essential.
  • Support ongoing research and monitoring programs, assisting with data collection and entry as needed.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants by implementing safety protocols.
  • Engage with the community to promote RES programs through social media, email, our website, and in-person outreach, while contributing content (e.g., photos, videos, articles) to enhance public awareness of our mission.
  • Collaborate with fellow interns, RES staff, and community stakeholders.

An ideal candidate will have/be: 

  • Enrolled in, or completed a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or Education (or related field).
  • Between 18 and 30 years old and a Canadian Citizen (or permanent resident).
  • Enjoy working with kids ages 6-12.
  • Previous Camp Leader experience.
  • 1 – 3 years of previous interpretive, education, or science experience.
  • Knowledge of coastal ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest.
  • Experience in program planning and coordination.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working in a team environment.
  • Able to remain outdoors most of the day.
  • Experience in risk management and implementing safety protocol.

Certifications: 

  • Level 1 / Standard First Aid and CPR (Wilderness First Aid an asset).
  • Valid BC driver’s license (and must have own vehicle and ability to use vehicle to access program sites).
  • Class 4 driver’s license and willingness to drive 24 passenger bus an asset.
  • Bronze Cross Certificate an asset.

Important: The successful candidates will be responsible for securing housing and ensuring a reliable means of transportation to/from programs in Tofino and Ucluelet, B.C.
